Richard’s fascination with the world of hospitality began during his educational journey at YCAB’s learning center. His relentless pursuit of excellence eventually led him to the world of coffee, where today, he proudly stands as a full-time barista at Starbucks.
Richard’s journey wasn’t a mere twist of fate; it was a result of proactive determination. Before even graduating, he began searching for a job. Just on the brink of commencement, luck came his way through an Instagram job posting. This wasn’t just any opportunity; it sought an intern for the position of a full-fledged barista at Starbucks.
Initially, Richard’s path was mapped out for a mere six months. However, his dedication and passion soon led to the extension of his contract to a year. Remarkably, alongside his monthly sales bonus, Richard’s earnings now surpass the minimum wage. Furthermore, the world of a barista offers ample opportunities for career advancement. Richard is now positioned to climb the ranks, with avenues ranging from Barista Training to Barista Trainer, and the coveted Coffee Master—the highest level of barista expertise.
What truly sets Richard apart are his proficiency in two crucial skills—computer literacy and English proficiency, skills he honed at YCAB’s Learning Center. At his high school, Richard received only the basics, but his solid foundation enabled him to excel in his workplace. English fluency is crucial for serving an international clientele, and computer skills are indispensable for order processing.
At present, Richard is living with his family, and together with his sister Venda, who is also a YCAB alumni, they are able to contribute to their family’s economy.
